- Modular Synth night - Hieroglitch Live.
Date: 22nd of September, 6:30 to 9pm.
Howler Theatre room. (Back room) Entry is FREE!
MODULAR NIGHT! Lets celebrate the wonderful world that is modular synths.
First hour - Synth meet. Bring in a piece of gear, share and chat hardware. Bonus if it's a modular synth! (Instructions in last paragraph).
Then - Hieroglitch plays their debut eurorack only live set.
Hieroglitch is a Melbourne-based electronic project working with Eurorack modular synthesis, noise and rhythm. Improvised systems are used to build dense, abrasive structures somewhere between industrial techno, rhythmic noise and harsh ambient. The work emphasises instability, texture and repetition over clean resolution.
Last hour - Guest presenters Xenosine & Boris Divjak play live then we chat to them about their workflow, modular case creations and how they play live.
Based in Melbourne, Boris Divjak is an electronic music producer who explores retro soundscapes across genres like electronica, synthwave, and cyberpunk. Growing up in the 80s in Slovenia (former Yugoslavia), he was immersed in the sounds of computer video games, a key influence that continues to shape his music today. Drawing inspiration from artists like Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, and LCD Soundsystem, Boris creates instrumental tracks that lead listeners on imaginative and playful journeys through sound.
Vijay Thillaimuthu is an electronic composer/performer and audio-visual artist informed by the rich history of sound synthesis and electromagnetic phenomena. He creates immersive multisensory environments based on synergistic approaches with technology. This is largely enabled through the open ended architecture of modular synthesisers, node-based programming languages and laser display systems. Electromagnetic phenomena has always been at the centre of Vijay Thillaimuthu’s practice. Whether fascinated by the discovery of self generating tones through signal feedback, or the realisation that voltage could deflect and guide rays of light in analogue display systems. The driving force has always been the joyful exploration of electricity as well as the visceral, transcendental experiences it could produce in expression as sound, vibration and light.
Note it's 'burger night' at Howler. Good quality cheap burger and a beer.
See you there.

7:30-8pm - Hieroglitch Live.
8-9pm - Guest presenters Xenosine & Boris Divjak.
Big thanks to Kevin of Stable Music and Howler for providing us with this space.
Instructions on the synth share:
Every synth meet, in the first hour, it's 'bring a synth to share'. It can be anything from a groovebox, drum machine, synth or any electronic music making box. Feel free to play with all the synths in the room, except for the live jam setup (should be in the middle of the room). There is a strictly "no drink over synths" policy. Unless it's your synth, in which case it's at your own risk! If you do plan on bringing gear (of any description) please get in touch so we make sure there is ample table space. Bring a pair of headphones as well please. Patrons also feel free to bring your own pair of headphones if that makes you more comfortable.
